I Am My Own Sanctuary

I am my own sanctuary and I can be reborn as many times as I choose throughout my life.

Lady Gaga

Sometimes in the deepest mindful moments of stillness, there can be discomfort. Often, it’s fear of the past or the future or the unknown pressing down. Maybe it’s a present pain or sorrow. Instead of pushing it away, think change. I’m in unknown territory with a life circumstance. Maybe I need to change the way I am seeing/feeling whatever it is. When I can just ponder as Gaga says, in my own sanctuary allowing my mind to wander, to be curious, to investigate uncertainty, I am practicing mindfulness. It’s so peaceful.

Next time you meditate or pause to breathe, allow the discomfort to be your teacher. Choosing not to be afraid, upset, or angry with yourself or another is practicing the mindfulness of self-compassion. It’s called freedom of choice to listen for your still small voice. Surprise! A moment in your own sanctuary has become a gift for transformation. Choose it.

Once you find that peace, that place of peace and quiet, harmony and confidence, that’s when you start playing your best.
