“First thing I do in the morning is I make up my bed. Then I make up my mind.”
– Robert Frost, poet
“Peace is possible in the middle of this life . . . now straighten the mind with your breath.”
– Sylvia Boorstein, psychotherapist, co-founding teacher Spirit Rock, author
Here’s the same question we started with in Determination 1.0. What if I told you there is a way to have peace every day no matter what’s going on around or in you? Would you believe me?
In mindfulness meditation, the still body and attention to the contents of our minds are our anchors. With each breath, we persevere through the distractions maybe hundreds of times. We persist not resist. Again, it’s simple but not easy.
We can make up our minds each morning and take a conscious breath of gratitude. Then put a smile on our lips and in our hearts, imagining it filling the sky from one end of the universe to the other. Oh Happy Day (a fabulous church song from the 60s)!
Sometimes songs can remind us about determination. Enjoy two of my favs (there are oodles of versions) below. I am sure you have your own that reliably boost your mood and remind you to be happy, grateful, and peaceful. Music energy is powerful. Make sure you sing, dance, jiggle, look up at the sky-smile no matter what is happening around you. We can make up our minds.
