Here’s some abracadabra to practice. It’s the magical ‘focus’ experiment for less stress, fluttering, or fear at the luxurious moment between dark and light, unconscious and conscious when we wake up. The alchemy is determination to wake up a new way. The formula has three ingredients: Breathe. Smile. Focus.

Initially, focus without fear on stillness. Turn off any alarm with slow gentle movements. You’ve compassionately chosen to sleep with your devices some distance away. Now relax back into no movement, take a conscious breath or two, put a smile on your lips, and focus on gratitude for a new day.

Speaking of gratitude, it’s a hopeful habit to nurture. You can add as many things as you like to your list before you open your eyes, roll over and get up. Practicing this has changed me. Choosing even three minutes to focus on sculpting our day is magic. It’s not hocus pocus to focus.

Starve your distractions feed your focus.
